Residents wriggle their way out

Residents wriggle their way out

Bangalore: For two days, the one-way restriction at the recently opened three underpasses near Frazer Town railway bridge has been removed. This was done to check the impact of the new rule on traffic management at this busy area.
While two underpasses continue to be one-way lanes, the remaining one that connects Cox Town was made two-way from Saturday morning after protests by members of Bharathinagar residents’ forum.
The rationale behind building the three underpasses was to establish a common route to access Banaswadi, Lingarajapuram, Hennur, Sevanagar and Kammanahalli. But nearby residents and motorists said the objective was defeated due to irrational and unscientific imposition of one-way rule.
Now, after the authorities allowed twoway traffic at one of the underpasses, the protesters said they are satisfied with the results. But officials in the traffic police department are not convinced. “Being a weekend, we were unable to make a proper study on the impact of the new twoway rule. We will wait for a few days for traffic volume to turn normal. Then it will be a real test,” ACP traffic (east) V Srinivas Murthy said. Sources in the traffic police department said a group of outside experts are also looking at the developing situation.
