"Inviting private parties to set up ramped car parking yards in playgrounds under Jawaharalal Nehru National Urban Revival Mission (JNNURM) is against the interests of children," said former mayor P R Ramesh.

Former mayor P R Ramesh has criticised the BBMP’s move to set up multi level ramped car parking yards in playgrounds of the city.

Referring to Palike’s advertisement, inviting private parties to set up ramped car parking yards in playgrounds under Jawaharalal Nehru National Urban Revival Mission (JNNURM), Mr Ramesh has said such a move is against the interests of children. “If the Palike goes on converting playgrounds into parking yards, where will children get place to play’’, he questioned.

In the year 2003-04 the BMP had earmarked Rs 15.65 cr for the renovation of 108 playgrounds in the city. Instead of upgrading playgrounds BBMP is converting them to parking yards ”, he criticised.

He also said that taking up such a programme in the absence of an elected body would amount to clear violation of norms under JNNURM. According to the norms of the JNNURM the local body should take elected body and public into consideration before taking up any work, he said.
