The projects are flood-control project at HSR Layout, road improvement work at HSR Layout as well as BTM Layout and work on the second floor of the BDA complex at HSR Layout.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday inaugurated three Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) projects, built at a combined cost of Rs 54.26 crore.

The projects are flood-control project at HSR Layout, road improvement work at HSR Layout as well as BTM Layout and work on the second floor of the BDA complex at HSR Layout.

Two bridges, built at a total cost of Rs 3.60 crore, have been constructed at the HSR Layout, 14th Main and the Outer Ring Road of Agaram Valley stormwater drain, as the existing Hume pipe culvert was not large enough to take the flood discharge of 135 cusecs.

This had resulted in flooding of the area during the rainy season the last couple of years. The project was completed in a year.

HSR Layout, a low-lying area surrounded by the Puttenahalli, Madiwala, Begur and Agaram lakes, had experienced similar problems as the stormwater drain was unable to take the flood discharge, resulting in flooding of the area. Apart from the two bridges, the stormwater drain has been remodelled.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kumaraswamy pointed out that residents who had a tough time coping with heavy rains during the last couple of years, would not face it this time. “This year, with the required amount sanctioned and the project completed, there will be no such problems,” he said.

The vice-president of the Federation of HSR Layout Residents’ Welfare Association G S Krishnamurthy, however, said that that though a hundred houses had been damaged during the rains, no compensation had been given to the affected.
