Bangalore: Bangalore city station will soon turn into a world class station with shopping malls, internet parlours, lifts, escalators and five star standard waiting rooms, said DRM Mahesh Mangal at the inaugural of the 52 railway week celebrations on Tuesday. Consultancy contracts are being invited, he added. Work for upgradation of Yeshwantpur station at a cost of Rs 3 crore and K R Puram for Rs 2 crore has been approved.
About Rs 8 crore is being spent on Bangalore station to improve passenger amenities, station track, pit lines and passenger contracts areas.
Bangalore’s other stations at Cantonment, K R Puram, and nearby stations at Hosur, Bangarpet and Tumkur will also be made into model stations.
The railways have introduced new trains to Gorakhpur, Chennai and Secunderabad in the current year said DRM Mahesh Mangal. In the previous year, nine trains have been made superfast express and the railways have introduced new new weekly trains connecting Bangalore to Ajmer, Tatanagar, Kochuveli and Dharbanga.
Mangal said track-doubling work on the Bangalore-Mysore sector is underway and has been completed until Kengeri. Work is underway between Kengeri and Ramnagaram and will be completed in the next six months. The doubling work between Bangalore and Tumkur is also underway.
The railways are selecting locations to start ATMs, which will also disburse passenger tickets
