Forty-eight hours of sunshine has brought the bloom back to the annual Republic Day flower show organised by the Mysore Horticulture Society at Lalbagh Botanical Gardens.

Thanks to special manure and creativity, doubts of a flower show being held, which surfaced following heavy rains across Karnataka, have been dispelled. On one hand, the Horticulture Department is using booster doses of minerals and manure to add colour to the show. On the other, the flower show is all set to turn into a horticulture show, show casing agro-processing, organic farming and home entrepreneurship also.

“Due to rains we are not depending solely on flowers. There will be more to think about than to see during the show,” said Horticulture Director Vasanth Kumar. The theme of the show this year is likely to be ‘Role of minor fruits in horticulture’, focussing on ‘amla’. Over 25 products, inclusing amla chaat, laddoos and burfee, will be displayed. The show will be held at the Glass House from January 20 to 26. The horticulture competitions will be held between January 5 and 13.
