Mahatma Gandhi Road, Commercial Street get the service

BANGALORE: Commissioner of Police Ajai Kumar Singh on Wednesday inaugurated three prepaid autorickshaw stands in the city. He first opened the stand near Barton Centre on Mahatma Gandhi Road.

A passenger to BTM Layout hired the first autorickshaw from the stand, which will be manned by policemen. The police will issue the passenger a slip mentioning the destination and the fare he has to pay after reaching the destination.

The slip will contain the registration number of the autorickshaw and the driver's name. The police have plans to computerise the system of issuing slips, which is now being done manually. The two other stands that were opened are at the junction of the Kamaraj Road and Dickenson Road, some 25 metres from Commercial Street, and the other at the Bangalore Airport. The police have plans to start two more prepaid autorickshaw stands, one near the Cauvery Emporium on Mahatma Gandhi Road and another near Forum on Hosur Road.
