BANGALORE: Basavanagudi, which falls under Bangalore South, boasts of the highest percentage of educated voters. Like its neighbouring constituency Chamarajpet, this constituency is also part of old Bangalore area, which is resplendent in its culture and traditions.
Poor infrastructure and traffic are the residents bugbears in the area.
While the core Basavanagudi, Hanumanthnagar have just one or two key civic problems, the areas such as Srinagar, Sunkanahalli, Veeraswamy Garden are deprived of the civic amenities and there is a yawning scope left for development on infrastructure front.
While new roads have been laid in the several areas here, yet the condition of roads in Srinagar and Kempegowda Nagar tell the same old sob story. Traffic snarls are at their worst owing to encroachments on either side of the roads in the commercial lanes.
Consequently, walking and parking vehicles become difficult.
The residents complain that there is no commitment to development work among the leaders and therefore, they have not many expectations too from them in the coming elections. The haphazardly laid slabs of the footpath pose danger and the remaining pavements have been encroached in the major commercial areas including Gandhibazar and DVG Road and others.
Traffic snarls are a huge detterents at the Gandhibazar and DVG Road, which are considered as onestop shops for shopping. The area is congested and in the evenings, the traffic gets worse here, complains a traffic constable on duty. In some parts of the constituency people complain about the shortage of drinking water and sanitation problems and with the influx of population, the problems count is only going northwards. There are no complaints when it comes to transportation in this part of Bangalore, The network of buses is good and number of bus shelters is also good.
However, there is a pressing need for upgrading of these bus shelters.
