BANGALORE: Drinking water, sewerage lines, good roads, public toilets and better connectivity are the urgent needs of Yeshwanthpur constituency. It houses Peenya Industrial Estate, the biggest industrial estate in Asia, besides various villages on the outskirts of the city and many newly-formed layouts. Virtually, there are no sanitary lines here and the stormwater drains are filled with mud. The rain water and the sewerage flows onto the roads when it rains, because of this.
B N Prasanna, proprietor of Southern Coats said that BESCOM’s frequent powercuts have reduced the productivity of the industries in Peenya. The streetlights that were installed recently are not in working condition. The government recently laid new roads in some areas, but most of them are already full of potholes. Water in the lakes in and around Peenya industrial estate are contaminated as some of the industries have directed their effluent discharges to the lakes. Drinking water problem persists in many areas of the constituency. People in some parts of Thigalarapalya, Kairobanahalli and Vidyamanyanagara have to walk at least a kilometre to fetch a pot of drinking water. Borewell water is the only source of water in most villages.
There is no proper connectivity to most of the villages and the villagers want the government to increase the frequency of buses to the villages
