UB City Mall ‘dethroned’

UB City Mall ‘dethroned’
Amongst the high-flying commercial property tax paying units of the city, Bagmane Tech Park comes on top, leaving UB City behind

Move over UB City. The high profile mall, which paid a mammoth Rs 4.5 crore as commercial property tax last year, is no longer the highest property tax paying unit in the city. It was beaten hollow by the Bagmane Tech Park in CV Raman Nagar this year. But these are not the only ducks who have laid the proverbial golden egg for the BBMP.
The Palike has had a windfall of sorts with the SAS property tax collection going beyond its expectation this year. More than Rs 400 crore have been collected in the first 42 days, which is Rs 100 crore more than what the Palike was expecting.
What was not a surprise was that the East Zone remained the largest contributor to the tax kitty as against the other seven zones. It alone paid Rs 177 crore of the Rs 400 crore collected. Here are the top ten properties who paid the highest tax in the Bangalore city, making the rest of our numbers look like peanuts.
1) Bagmane Tec Park
CV Raman Nagar
Property tax paid -
Rs 4.10 crore
Assessed at Rs 8 crore, this sprawling business park has paid Rs 4.10 crore as property tax, topping the list. It houses some of the best software names including Texas Instruments, Cognizant and Dell.
2) The Leela Palace Kempinski, Airport Road Property tax paid - Rs 3.20 crore
Bangalore’s very own Ritz/ Hilton has played host to many dignitaries and VIPs from around the world and is the last word on luxury stay in the city. Some of the best known retail brands, an ubercool disco and a gaming zone means the hotel is a one-stop-shop for your stay, if you can afford to pay for it, of course.
3) UB City/ UB Towers Vittal Mallya Road Property tax paid - Rs 3.02 crore
The one name for every luxury that money can buy, the mall rivals the best in the world in terms of architecture and ambiance. The man with the Midas touch (the IPL bungle being an exception to the case), Vijay Mallya, has his private offices here. The property had topped the list of commercial properties last year with a tab of Rs 4.5 crore. This year the figure has dwindled down to Rs 3.02 crore.
4) Philips Electronics India Dickenson Road Property tax paid - 1.79 crore
5) Diamond District Airport Road Property tax paid - 1.50 crore
The first integrated township of sorts within the city.
6) Safina Plaza and Towers, Infantry Road Property tax paid - Rs 1.17 crore
The corner store on Infantry road that is a favorite shopping spot for all ages. The only place with year round sales and exhibition.
7) Intel India Development Centre, Sarjapur Road Property tax paid - Rs 1.16 crore
The building that originally started as a sales and marketing office in 1988 and then slowly expanded to its current 200,000 square feet office and lab space. Intel’s Bangalore operations include the most Intel divisions in any country outside the United States.
8)Khanija Bhavan Race Course Road Property tax paid - 1.15 crore
9)Shankar Narayan Building, MG Road Property tax paid - 1.07crore
10)DivyaSree Chambers/ DivyaSree Towers Langford Road/ Bannerghatta Road
The DivyaSree Chambers on Langford Road represents the first of its kind joint venture between the public and private sectors with a total developed area of 500,000 square feet. DivyaSree Towers in Bannerghatta Road on the other hand, was initially planned as a speculative project comprising of twin towers of 175,000 sq.ft. each. Based on client requirements, the design was customised while the construction was still in progress. The area now comes up to 350,000 sq.ft.
