‘Injustice to Karnataka’

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has alleged that the Union Railway budget presented on Friday by the United Progressive Alliance Government has done great injustice to Karnataka.

In a press release, the Chief Minister said that Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad had not considered any of the projects proposed by the State. Though Karnataka was the only State which had come forward to share 50 per cent of the implementation cost of railway projects, the Railway Minister had failed to respond favourably to its proposals, he said.

He said the Railway Minister had not considered the State’s request for introducing new trains on eight routes. Instead, it had proposed three new trains in some of the routes which was not of much benefit to the State.

Echoing similar views, BJP State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda called upon the Opposition Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) to support the Yeddyurappa Government’s demands with respect to various railway projects.

The Opposition Congress hailed the Railway budget. Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R.V. Deshpande and working president D.K. Shivakumar welcomed the Railway budget and said this is the budget of the common man.
