Bangalore to Chennai by road in three hours?

Survey is on to ascertain the route of the expressway project between the two cities

T.NARSIPURA: Bangalore to Chennai by road in three hours. This will become a reality if the Union Government’s expressway project to connect the two cities materialises.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways K.H. Muniyappa said here on Wednesday that the project was being planned under the National Highway Development Programme – Phase VI, and a survey was on to ascertain the route and land required for the purpose.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a new bridge across the Kabini here on Wednesday. The Minister said the Bangalore-Chennai expressway was part of the 1,000-km expressway project conceived to provide connectivity between high traffic density sections such as Vadodara-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Agra.

The Minister said the 93-km stretch between Vadodara and Ahmedabad could be covered in 55 minutes and the Bangalore-Chennai stretch in three hours if the expressway project materialises.

The Minister defended collection of toll for using some highway.
