In keeping with the move to provide enhanced security at railway stations in the SWR Bangalore division, a centralised round-the-clock surveillance system that can monitor cameras fixed at Yeshwantpur was inaugurated on Tuesday.
DRM Mahesh Mangal said, this system worth 19 lakh, is aimed at monitoring and controlling the activities of anti-social elements. Ten cameras are provided at Yeshwantpur presently and the number will be increased to 20 within six months.
A double-sided coach guidance system, for which Rs one crore has been spent, was also launched today. The display boards highlight the coach number at all the ten platforms at the City station. It will be introduced at Yeshwantpur later. Waitlisted names will be displayed on plasma screens instead of the printout pasted outside coaches to display the reservation chart, the DRM said. A total of 60 double-sided clocks, three for each platform, will be installed at the City, Cantonment and Yeshwantpur stations. Three out of the 30 planned for City station have already been installed on platform one. “The clocks have inbuilt lighting facility and will automatically light up at 5.30 every evening and get switched off in the mornings.”
