Passengers getting stranded at the Bangalore airport may be very nearly an everyday phenomenon, but Saturday morning proved things could get even worse for air travellers.

Air Deccan passengers travelling on the DN 107 Bangalore-Coimbatore flight (scheduled to take off at 6 am) were offloaded without so much as by your leave! And no notice, mind you.

Swati Nair, working for an MNC and a frequent flier, for one, was seen fuming at the ‘ejection’. (She was supposed to oversee a college campus interview at 11 am in Coimbatore.)

“Initially, I received an SMS, saying the flight is delayed and rescheduled to 8.30 am. After collecting the boarding pass, I was about to get into the aircraft, when myself and 11 others were told that we’d be offloaded,” she told Deccan Herald.

No airline official bothered to come up with a convincing reply. “We were told by one gentleman (Jalalludin) that the airline doesn't have tie-ups with any other airlines and that they were not in a position to help,” she said. Worse, he told them: “Do what you want. Now, please get in the queue for collecting your refund money.”

“My schedule went haywire. Hundreds of students were waiting for me. Some foreigners also faced the same problem,” she added.

"Later, we learnt that as our tickets were low-priced ones and there were quite a few enquiries for tickets at the counter, they had sold the tickets at a higher price, leaving us in lurch,” Ms Swati said.

When contacted, airline officials either refused to comment or hung up, saying, ‘the concerned person is not available.’ Deccan Herald » State » Detailed Story
