Auto drivers threaten to go on strike
The Times of India

Bangalore: Members of the Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union (ARDU), numbering about 14,000, have threatened to go on a 12-hour strike from 6 am on December 14 against, what they describe, stringent enforcement rules.
The ARDU said its drivers will hold a ‘satyagraha’ at Banappa Park on December 11, 12 and 13 in a run-up to the strike.
The ARDU opposed the recent notification of slapping Rs 2,000- to 5,000-fine for the first traffic offence which could even be for not using the lane marked for autos or jumping traffic signals, and Rs 5,000 to 10,000 for the second offence. The notification said if the driver cannot pay, he will face one-year imprisonment. Presently, the drivers get away paying Rs 100 to Rs 300 as fine.
