BMP takes HC committee for granted

BMP takes HC committee for granted

BANGALORE: No power can bring order to the chaos in Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP).

The year-long efforts of the High Court to bring accountability in civic works, seems to be heading nowhere with BMP taking the expert committee for granted.

Though BMP has complied with HC order to constitute a technical advisory committee including the members of Capt Raja Rao Committee, it has hardly met.

What is more, BMP Joint Commissioner (Works) Harsh Gupta cannot even tell how many times the panel met.

“We might have had three to five meetings of the expert committee and we had been considering their opinion,” he said.

On the other hand Capt Raja Rao said that the civic body was cooperating with the panel.

“BMP does not furnish the information we seek and expects us to give opinion on projects they choose to refer to us,” he said.

The committee has had four meetings and in two of them the chairman of the panel Prof Justo was absent.

The committee is expected to evolve a set of guidelines to improve quality of BMP works and suggest mechanisms to manage contracts better.

The High Court has posted the hearing to January 20.BMP takes HC committee for granted
