BANGALORE: If Ashok Kheny’s offer to sponsor Bangalore Habba becomes reality, Bangaloreans can witness a Rio Carnival-like atmosphere in Bangalore. Only difference will be that the Bangalore carnival will depict our own folk culture.

Speaking to this website's newspaper, Managing Director Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Limited (NICE) Ashok Kheny said the carnival will be part of Bangalore Habba celebrations and will be held on the penultimate day of the month. “We want to make Bangalore Habba a much bigger festival by involving more number of people. Only way to do it is organise a grand carnival, on the lines of some of the best international carnivals held in US and Europe”, he said.

Several residential clubs like Indiranagar Club, Kormangala Club and corporate bodies will bring floats, which will cover 16 kms from Clover Leaf junction of Bangalore-Mysore Express Corridor till the international exhibition centre on Tumkur Road, he added.

“We will conduct fund raising programmes and we aim to contribute minimum Rs one crore for the carnival,” he added.

He asserted that the carnival will bring much-needed boost to the tourism sector.

“In the West, the Christian and New Year holidays begin from December 18. To target western tourists, we can add Bangalore Carnival as their favorite year-end experience,” Kheny said.

He also added that introducing carnival was his personal idea, and nothing do with NICE Limited.
