A report on the poor condition of roads in RT Nagar, published in Deccan Herald , once again evoked immediate response from the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) officials. On Wednesday, the BMP officials not only inspected the service road to Matadhalli main road but also visited Rahmatnagar to review the road work.

According to BMP officials, the service road was metalled and asphalted (single layer) by the Project division two years back. But the road was damaged due to heavy vehicular traffic and was identified for upgradation in the previous financial year.

Meanwhile, BMP had called for tenders to repair the roads (including the service road), for a total Rs 24.35 lakh. But there was no response. The BMP has now proposed a temporary solution - of repairing the damaged portion with hot asphalt mix.

In Rahmatnagar, the road was entrusted to a contractor - Ninganagowda V Patil, for an amount of Rs 24.6 lakh (for both civil and asphalt components). But the BMP was forced to order a ‘re-do’ of the road work, as the asphalt mix was of inferior quality. The contractor has been asked to resume the works immediately.
