In an effort to provide better facilities at the dilapidated market in Malleswaram, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has decided give it a facelift an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.

Speaking to Vijay Times, BMP deputy commissioner (market) L Srinivasaiah said following the directions from Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, BMP commissioner K Jairaj has taken an initiative to construct a modern market complexcum-parking lot.

It will be built on a BuildOperate-Transfer (BOT) basis. He said a six-storeyed building will be built to accommodate both the market and shops.

Adequate parking facilities will be provided in the market, which will also have a basement.

Lifts will be provided to carry vehicles, he added.

The market will be built on a piece of land measuring 2.5 acres.

Tenders will be invited in the next 15 days. Provision will be made for a parking lot for the shop-owners as well as the public.

“Existing licencees will be accommodated in the renovated market. Shops will be available to new licencees too. Priority will be given to the existing 260 licencees. The market will house fruits, flower and vegetable market,” he said.

BMP sources said at present, the BMP has been earning a revenue of Rs 3.12 lakh per month.
