The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has asked, on Wednesday, for eight acres of defence land in Binnamangala on Old Madras Road near Indiranagar, for setting up a casting yard.

In a meeting with the Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju, who is on a two-day visit to Bangalore, BMRC Managing Director V Madhu asked for this land on lease for four-five years.

Mr Madhu also sought permission to begin utility shifting on a part of the 102 acre defence land that has already been transferred towards the Metro project.

Mr Raju directed Brigadier Clement Samuel, Commander Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, to examine the matter and give the approvals.

Meanwhile, Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner K Jairaj requested for 80,000 sq metres of defence land for road widening of ten roads, including Bellary Road, Hosur Road, Lower Agaram Road and Ulsoor Road.

“The modalities are being worked out. We have communicated to the Minister about our deadline of December for road widening, and he has promised his support,” Jairaj revealed.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Clement Samuel appealed to the BMP and BMRC to provide equivalent portion of land on the city outskirts in exchange of the defence land given by them for infrastructure projects. This land will be utilised for establishment of facilities and accommodation of army personnel, he said.
