BANGALORE: Even as the Government notification to create new Southeast zone is awaited, the hunt for buildings to accommodate the newly created stations seems to be driving the police into a tizzy.

According to sources, after trying hard to rent buildings on the city outskirts, police are now looking for some space in Government buildings to house new stations, until sites are provided.

The new South-East zone will have seven new stations - HSR Layout, Parappana Argrahara, Hulimavu, Electronic City, Varthur, Kadugodi and Whitefield - under three sub-divisions.

Though the creation of new zone is an administrative arrangement within the department, the increasing number of crimes in the busy commercial area just outside the jurisdiction of the Bangalore Police Commissionerate, was the real reason behind creating a new zone, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (Admn) Raghavendra Auradkar.

The new zone will have all the stations, which were earlier in the rural zone. The police hope that this step will bring down crime. Senior police officials said that rented buildings would be ready before the notification gets the clearance.

‘‘We are looking for rented accommodation for the new stations. Meanwhile, sites for each new station will be earmarked. But new buildings can come up only after one year,’ DCP, Southeast zone, Soumendhu Mukherji said.
