A deluge of banners, posters, cut-outs and hoardings, during the recent Congress Convention, will cost the Party dear. Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has not only slapped a notice on the Congress Party units, but has prepared a videographed evidence of the violations to counter any denial.
While, posters are banned in the city, hoardings and cut-outs can be put up only after securing permission from the BMP authorities.
However, the Congress Party had sought permission for only 37 hoardings, but ended up putting up several thousands. Even as the Congress party office refuses to give the actual number of hoardings put up by them or the penalty imposed by the BMP, BMP sources claim that the penalty could amount to Rs 1 crore. The BMP has videographed and photographed the various roads with the hoardings.
In the East division alone, 1,300 unauthorised hoardings and cut-outs were identified and a penalty of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed. Meanwhile, the Congress workers claimed that the KPCC office had erected only about five hoardings. While, the Party was now busy compiling the total number of posters and hoardings put up by the block presidents and various Congress leaders.
“We are taking stock of the situation. Moreover, we have also pulled down all the hoardings and cut-outs ourselves. There has been no damage caused to public property” claimed a Congress office-bearer.
