The farmers’ agitation against the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor entered its third day on Tuesday at Hemmigepura in Talaghattapura police station limits.
Two protesting farmers - Murthy and Ramesh - attempted self-immolation at the protest venue. They doused themselves with kerosene and attempted to set themselves on fire. But timely intervention by elders prevented a mishap and the distraught farmers were made to see reason.
The community kitchen set up by the protesters on the BMIC expressway, continued to run for the second successive day with food being cooked and served to the agitators in the middle of the road.
Taluk Panchayat member B Krishnappa told Deccan Herald that the agitators were not approached either by the promoters, NICE, or the government. “We want the company to resolve our issue and then go ahead with their work.”
The protesters alleged that on Monday night, a group of men came in a jeep and parked the vehicle at a distance from the pandal put up by them.
The strangers threatened the protesters sleeping inside the pandal.
Two protesters, Venkata-ramanappa and Basappa, have filed a complaint and the police have registered an FIR.
