You will no longer need to shuttle between the various departments in the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to gather information. A citizen Information Centre has been set up by the BMP following the enactment of the Right to Information Act.

“The information centre will be an interface between the citizens and the various departments of BMP. It will disseminate information to citizens and accept their queries (applications). Soon after the computerisation of the centre, the citizens will be given acknowledgment for the applications received,” said BMP Commissioner K Jairaj. A training programme to enlighten the BMP officials about the RTI Act will be conducted in association with the National School of Law on July 1. The information centre will be monitored by Council Secretary Ateek Ahmed, while deputy commissioner (welfare) Neelakanta has been nominated to disseminate information. Ms Varalaksmi will be the administrator and C M Jayaprakash will provide guidance on the Right to Information Act.
