Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday called upon officials and bureaucrats to look beyond changes in the administrative set-up and work towards effectively addressing Bangalore City’s infrastructure issues.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Tuesday called upon officials and bureaucrats to look beyond changes in the administrative set-up and work towards effectively addressing Bangalore City’s infrastructure issues. He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a casualty block constructed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar.

Mr Kumaraswamy pointed out that despite being rich in resources, Bangalore was not reaping in the benefits because of ineffective implementation of developmental schemes. “All the stakeholders in Bangalore — including the BDA, BMP and the BWSSB — should work in unison and with a vision to address public issues, irrespective of who is ruling the State.,” he said. The BDA would in the next 10 to 15 days start distributing 11,000 sites as part of the first phase of the Arkavathy Layout project. He urged the BDA to ensure sites in the layout for people from the lower strata of society. Minister for Sericulture and Small Scale Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu said the government would work towards emulating Bangalore’s IT success story in the field of medicine, and make the City the country’s medical capital. Minister for Health and Family Welfare R Ashok said plans were on to open around 275 trauma care centres across the State.

The casualty block at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital has been built at Rs 9.8 crore. The four-floor building can accommodate 190 beds and is built on a total plinth area of nearly 5,380 sq m. On Tuesday, the chief minister also inaugurated a BDA commercial complex in HBR Layout and laid foundation stones for two underpasses — at Magadi Chord Road Junction and Ramamurthy Nagar.
