Car stolen near MG Road, cops pass the buck for two hours

BANGALORE: Even as the city police commissioner has advised his men to act swiftly when people come to them with grievances, it seems that policemen are getting slower to react, if one goes by a recent incident on M G Road.
A man, whose car had been stolen, rushed to the nearest cop to ask him to flash an alert over the wireless, but the policemen on duty just would not listen. Instead, they were worried about whose jurisdiction the spot fell under.
By the time the victim got the message across to the police and a policeman visited the spot, at least two hours had elapsed.
The incident took place on Kamaraj Road on Tuesday evening when businessman Raj had parked his Maruti car by the roadside and gone to a restaurant.
He returned an hour later and found his car missing, upon which he rushed to the nearest traffic policeman.
‘‘I requested him to send an alert over the wireless networkbecause the thief couldn’t have not gone very far because of heavy traffic,’’ Raj said, but apparently, the policeman said that it was not possible on his wireless set.
He was guided to two other policemen on MG Road and finally sent to Ashok Nagar police station where a constable accompanied him back to the spot, only to discover that it fell under Cubbon Park police limits.
The least that the policemen could have done was to inform the control room quickly, Raj said.
Incidentally, a few months ago, a similar incident had taken place in Ashok Nagar but the police caught the thieves barely 45 minutes after they had vanished with a car.
Then, the control room staff had flashed the message across all channels and two alert traffic police constables had spotted the stolen car near Madiwala.
They switched off the traffic signals and trapped the car in the midst of vehicles while the Hoysala patrol staff caught them.
