The JD(S)-BJP government has decided to take up the upgradation of roads in Bangalore as well as in seven municipal councils around the City, in its effort to maintain the City’s “brand name” on the world map.
Announcing this at a press conference soon after taking oath as State Chief Minister, Mr H D Kumaraswamy said he would give “first priority” to the upgradation of infrastructure in Bangalore as well as in those areas on the outskirts. He said his government would take up an appropriate project to upgrade the infrastructure facilities in Bangalore, to suit its “brand name”. This project would include the upgradation of roads and underground drainage facilities, and the construction of flyovers.
The new Chief Minister observed that there was a dire need to upgrade the infrastructure on the outskirts, in the wake of Bangalore’s fast growth.
He declared that his government would extend complete cooperation to the IT and BT industries, which are responsible for helping Bangalore make a name on the world map.
“We will make honest efforts to provide all infrastructure support to these industries. Through them, we will try to create more employment opportunities for the youth,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.
He also said that his government would help create a conducive environment to attract industrialists to invest in the State, by providing them with all the necessary assistance minus any hassles.
In an obvious reference to the fear psychosis prevailing among call centre employees and others working late in the night, following the Prathiba murder case, the new Chief Minister said he would evolve a new security programme to protect such employees. However, he did not go into the details.
Replying to queries on the fate of the metro rail, he made it clear that he had neither opposed the metro rail nor zeroed in on any other mode of transport. “My view is that we should take up the transport mode that is more beneficial to people and more economical,” he said.
He would soon decide on the appropriate mode of transport by holding discussions with experts and officials.
The work on the project would be taken up immediately after deciding on the appropriate mode.
