Bangalore: Friday was the swearing-in ceremony for H D K umaraswamy and his coalition partners. The day also saw motorists swear never to come on to the roads on such an occasion.
And the reason was valid. T raffic movement was paralysed for over an hour on many roads and the road rage was at its worst.
The worst-hit roads were K R Road, Seshadri Road, Palace Road, Rajbhavan Road, Cubbon Road and Ambedkar V eedhi. As a result, police had to divert traffic towards Hudson Circle, Cubbon Park, Museum Road and Residency Road.
Many motorists stuck in the traffic jams were seen requesting the police to allow them to proceed on restricted roads. Their replies, however , were a curt ’No’.
At 12.05 pm, roads connecting Vidhana Soudha was out of bounds for traffic as the police had put up barricades. V ehicles allowed on the restricted roads before the barricades were put up had a tough time wriggling out, with the party supporters gathering around Vidhana Soudha in large numbers.
Police were seen requesting them to allow these vehicles to pass through.
Many advocates were also seen requesting the police to allow them to proceed towards the High Court.
The supporters from far-off places, who were themselves victims of the traffic jam, were getting down from their vehicles and walking along the roadside shouting slogans and displaying flags and placards.
Meanwhile, security was tight in and around the Vidhana Soudha, with over 2,000 policemen guarding it. Supporters, who tried entering the premises without passes and invitations were caned.
Both entrances to Vidhana Soudha were blocked and people entering it were thoroughly frisked.
