The firm has also carried out an environment impact assessment study which included examining the noise level, traffic density and water and soil conditions in the vicinity of the Monorail which is likely to act as a feeder service for the Metro rail and play a vital role in solving the city’s traffic problems Estimated to cost Rs 7,200 crore,it will be implemented using the Swiss Challenge method. Its three corridors will cover 61.5 kms across Bengaluru running from Cantonment in the east to Byatarayanapura police station off Mysore Road in the west and from Agara Lake and Koramangala in the south to Yeshwanthpur in the north. The first stretch of the Monorail will cover 32.5 kms, the second, 17.4 kms and the third, 13.6 kms, The Monorail will cater to passengers from Vasanthnagar, West Of Chord Road, Magadi Road, Hosakerehalli, Bull Temple Road, Hudson Circle, Residency Road, MG Road, Shivananaga Circle, Lalbagh, Millers Road, Kamaraj Road, and areas around the Koramangala Indoor Stadium.

Scomi has proposed a 12meter high elevated system for the tracks and advanced features like an integrated network for telecommunication, fare control, fire detection and a fire fighting system, besides an on-site and off-site emergency management system.

“Since the project is likely to use the Swiss Challenge method it is difficult to estimate how much it will actually cost to build. According to a rough estimate, each kilometer will cost Rs 120 crore. This mega project will be placed before Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development (ABIDe) for its approval. After this global tenders will be invited for the project,” BBMP commissioner Subramanya said. BBMP officials are worried about whether the project can be carried out in sync with the Metro Rail which is already in progress.
