BANGALORE: Police fired three rounds in the air and resorted to lathicharge to disperse two groups at Chamundinagar in RT Nagar on Saturday evening over the transportation of cows to a slaughter house.
Four people, including three policemen, who were injured in stone throwing, have been admitted to hospital. The injured policemen have been identified as Nagaiah (head constable), Siddaraju and Gururaj (constables) and Babu, a resident of Chamudninagar.
Following the clashes, tension prevailed in the area.
The representatives of an animal rights group caught some cows which were allegedly being taken to a slaughter house. Those from another group objected to this leading to an altercation. This created tension in the area as people gathered.
Then two groups started pelting stones at each other.
Police, who rushed to the spot, first lathicharged the groups before firing three rounds in the air.
While police were trying to pacify the groups, miscreants are said to have pelted stones, injuring four people. The situation is now said to be peaceful.
