BANGALORE: An awareness campaign against terror activities should be started in schools and colleges, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, has said. This will prepare students to face terrorist attacks, he said, speaking at a Janaspandana programme at Rajarajeshwari Nagar here.

“With increasing terror threats, youngsters should get prepared to face activities of anti-social element,” the CM said. They should be asked to inform the police, whenever they come across suspicious elements. “Our government is all set to change the picture of Bangalore within the next four-and-half years. As promised earlier, we are working towards the development of the city and all other important cities in the state,” he said.

“Janaspandana programme, during my tenure, will be held every Saturday.

More than five lakh people have been benefited by this programme,” he said. Several social welfare programmes and projects have been chalked out and steps will be taken to ensure that they benefit the needy, he stated. Abide meetings should be held twice a week and the officials should sit together and work out plans to ensure quality in the works. The CM also directed officials of Rajarajeshwari Nagar to complete works undertaken in the constituency within March 2009.

He urged the CM and other cabinet ministers to meet the Union railway minister to request him to ensure completion of the doubling work of the railway line between Bangalore and Mysore at the earliest and also provide automatic signal system on this route. The metro rail proposed from HAL to Rajarajeshwari Nagar should also be extended upto Kengeri, said Kumar.

With regard to Self Assessment Scheme, Transport Minister R Ashok said, “we will hold another meeting with the officials to discuss the issue.” Minister for Information, Excise, IT, BT and BWSSB Kattasubramanya Naidu, Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Shobha Karandlaje, and Minister for Medical Education Ramachandra Gowda, were among those present.
