BANGALORE: Civil Defence Karnataka and Janaagraha have joined together to channelise people’s energies in Bangalore through the ‘Area Suraksha Mitra’-- an initiative that will make communities participate in their own security
measures.
This initiative was announced at the Raising Day celebrations of the Home Guards, held at the Office of DGP, Commandant General Home Guards & Director of Civil Defence.
Jija Harisingh, ADGP, Home Guards, spoke on the relevance of vigilant communities in these times. The Area Suraksha Mitra initiative will include individuals representing a local community. “If there is even a single new person in the area, their representative should be capable of identifying him/her, “ she added.
Citizens interested in this initiative can become members by writing to asm@janaagraha.org. The drill display at the event showcased the capabilities of the force to deal with contingencies.
The idea of this manner of participation is to strengthen the role of the police stations in counter-terrorism in all major cities said, Upendra Tripathy, principal secretary, Home.
