BANGALORE: Ayudha pooja and Vijayadashami celebrations are finally over, but garbage has piled up on the City roads, post-festival.

While uncleared garbage was found in several localities on Friday morning, it was worse in and around the market areas. People shopping at K R Market, Shivajinagar, Malleswaram, Madivala and other markets had to face problems because of the uncleared garbage.

“Heaps of uncleared garbage have piled up on the pavements in our locality. The garbage vans too haven’t come,” complained Linet Joseph, a resident of Ulsoor. “And if they do not clear by evening, it will be impossible to stay even indoors, as the smell emanating from the garbage will get worse,” she added.

Meanwhile, BBMP Commissioner Dr. S Subramanya visited different parts of the City, especially the market places, on Thursday and Friday to ensure that the garbage is cleared. The Commissioner is said to have directed the Joint Commissioners and the BBMP health officials to ensure cleanliness in and around the City. The clearance of garbage is done on a regular basis, but disposing the garbage deposited on the festival days, requires at least one extra day, said an official.

“The disposal of garbage generated during the festival, especially on ‘maha sapthami’, ‘maha ashtami’, ‘maha navami’ and ‘vijayadashami’ is a problem every year. But this year, arrangements have been made to ensure that the pooja venues and market areas are cleaned regularly”, added the official.
