Progress of airport works reviewed

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday held a high-level meeting with officials from the infrastructure development department to review progress of various airport/airstrip projects across the State.

Speaking to reporters after the meet the Chief Minister said his government would expedite works on the airports and small airstrips as proposed across the State.

“Work will immediately start as land has already been identified. Airstrips will come up in the districts within a span of two years. The cabinet has given its nod to have five small airports on a PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) model. Shimoga, Gulbarga and Hassan airports have been approved, while the Bijapur airport is in the bid evaluation stage and the Bellary airport being examined” Yeddyurappa said. Other issues discussed at the meet included expansion plans at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) such as a second runway and construction of an inter-state bus terminus near the trumpet inter-change flyover NH -7 to Devanahalli, high-speed rail link to BIA, land acquisition from the Hebbal flyover to trumpet inter-change for the rail link.
