It’s going to be revving up time for Bangalore’s racers as NICE’s PRR enters the last phase of construction

The six-lane Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) constructed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) is all set to provide an adrenaline rush to the city’s young wheelies as the last few missing links are now in place. On Tuesday, the state government cleared the remaining bottlenecks to the PRR by handing over 102 acres of land to NICE.

However, the land grant is limited to the linking roads and peripheral roads, while the clearance for the expressway connecting Bangalore and Mysore is yet to be given.

Home minister V S Acharya told reporters on Tuesday that except for the stretch at Gottigere, land will be given to the NICE as per the Supreme Court and Karnataka High Court’s direction. “The court is yet to pass its verdict on whether to construct the bridge across the tank or make use of the adjacent forest land for diverting the road. Hence, except for this stretch, the remaining land will be handed over to NICE,” he said.

Prior to the cabinet clearance, the high-level committee on BMICP headed by chief secretary Sudhakar Rao had given the green signal to NICE to go ahead with pending works along the corridor. Barring a few patches where the land was not handed over by the government, NICE had completed a major portion of the link and peripheral roads. Now, with the cabinet’s nod, NICE is all set to take up works in these areas that were hindering the completion of the project.
