BANGALORE: Come October 15, all infrastructure projects in the city will be branded ‘ABIDe initiatives’ as an effort to build credibility for projects being undertaken by civic agencies under the Agenda for Bangalore Infrastructure Development (ABIDe). This was decided in the review meeting of the task force for Bangalore infrastructure held late Friday night.
Some of the recommendations of the task force are as follows:
Develop model wards as basic units of planning and execution.
Approach planning from a metropolitan region perspective and strengthen the Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority (BMRDA) with suitable amendments to the law.
Make population distribution from BMA as the primary focus of planning.
Develop new townships under public-private-partnerships (PPP). PPP commercial terms / contracts must ensure population distribution targets and planning guidelines specified by the Government. Such townships are to be an integral part of the planning process.
Township locations to be positioned around existing transportation, connectivity, water, infrastructure or where such infrastructure expansion is underway e.g. Bangalore International Airport.
Integrate structure plan and comprehensive traffic and transport study and make these two the principle planning documents for the complete metropolitan region and the BBMP, the BDA and all local planning authorities.
New model norms towards land acquisition for Satellite Township Ring Road and townships to be adopted where landowners are given compensations through developable land or/and cash/or employment in townships and/or on the roadside for them. This will prevent disputes and speed up development of projects.
New mega-roads planning should include a provision for trees on either side of the roads and a ‘Green ribbon’, after which the development zone should begin. Further, provisions for future Mono, Metro or Elevated Transit systems should be made.
Strengthen ABIDe Task force Secretariat and Infrastructure to ensure follow-up, research and inter-agency coordination and finalise Plan Bengaluru 2020
Signboards of all agencies to have common Bengaluru branding i.e. “Namma Bengaluru BDA”, “Namma Bengaluru BTRAC”, “Namma Bengaluru BBMP” etc.
