BMTC seeks land for two TTMCs

Bangalore: Swearing by transit management as a potential escape route from the city’s choked roads, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is clearing decks for another two Traffic and Transit Management Centres (TTMCs).
BMTC has sought additional land for proposed TTMCs at Bannerghatta and Domlur, the final two in the list of 10 TTMCs identified under the JNNURM.
The corporation, in the process of initiating work-tenders for the two TTMCs, is learnt to have identified the extent of land required for the two centres. According to senior BMTC officials, letters requesting land for the Domlur and Bannerghatta centres have been sent to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the forest department respectively.
“A request has been made to BBMP to release a stretch of unused land in Domlur that could be utilized for the TTMC. Since land identified for the Bannerghatta centre comes under the forest department’s purview, we’ve made a request to them as well,’’ an official said. The BMTC is also in the process of issuing tenders for construction of the two TTMCs.
Bids opened
Of the 10 proposed TTMCs, work on the Jayanagar TTMC is already on, while tenders have been floated for seven others. The financial and technical bids for the seven TTMCs have been opened and the developer will be finalized in the coming weeks. The locations for the seven TTMCs are Shantinagar, Koramangala, Whitefield, Vijayanagar, Kengeri, Banashankari and Yeshwantpur.
According to the BMTC’s invitation for tenders, work on the seven TTMCs is spread over four packages: Shantinagar (approximate value of work, Rs 84 crore), Koramangala and Whitefield (Rs 76 crore), Vijayanagar, Kengeri and Banashankari (Rs 81 crore) and Yeshwanthpur (Rs 61 crore). Winning developers will be awarded a maximum of two packages. Work on each package is expected to be completed in two years.
