BANGALORE: About 1,000 traders took to streets on Tuesday protesting against the works of Bangalore Metro Rail on CMH Road.
Traders observed bandh on the CMH Road from 10 am to 6 pm and led a peaceful protest march against the Metro works. ''CMH Road is a spontaneous business establishment which houses about 2500 shops.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation(BMRC) cannot begin the Metro Rail works as the case is still pending in the court,'' said CMH Traders Association president Imtiaz Ahmed.
''Despite protesting against the alignment of Metro onto the CMH Road, the BMRCL has scheduled to begin the works.
The Metro Rail in the middle of CMH will be economic loss to the government as CMH Road generates a lot of revenue,'' said Pramila Nesargi, former chairperson, State Women's Commission, who led the protest.
''It's impractical to rehabilitate the shops as lot of people depend on these shops for their livelihood. Other alternatives have been laid to the BMRCL to avoid the CMH Road but no consent has been given in this regard,'' added Nesargi.
CMH Road houses about 2500 shops inclusive of all kinds of business establishments like restaurants, music shops, retail shops, and many others along with 45 banks.
