Light at the end of this tunnel?

Light at the end of this tunnel?

The BDA’s ambitious tunnel road between Minsk Square and Hebbal flyover gained momentum with infrastructure company IDEB asked to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).
Last month, the BDA received a request for proposal (RFP) from the firm and asked to prepare the DPR. “Once the DPR is ready, we’ll float global tenders and the lowest bidder will get the contract. If there is no response or if IDEB is found to be the lowest bidder, the contract will be handed over to them as per the Swiss Challenge method,’’ officials said.
The BDA sent a formal proposal to the government for consent. Mooted at a cost of Rs 800 crore, the government made an allocation of Rs 50 crore in the last budget.
The country’s first tunnel road project was approved in the last BDA board meeting with authorities proposing a global tender to execute the project on design-build-operate-transfer basis.
The 8-km tunnel will be of two decks of three lanes each for vehicles to move in the opposite direction one above the other. The BDA plans to complete the project in 30 months.
The project comes with two major advantages — no need for land acquisition and the surface road will not be disturbed. The entire tunnelling and work will happen underground.
