Bangalore: New Year will see Silicon City sport a new look with glitzy hoardings dotting the cityscape.
The move to augment revenue will also spare a thought to aesthetics. Seven locations have been finalised for installing ‘electronic display system’ (EDS) with light emitting diode (LED), which will also boost advertisement tax — one of BBMP’s big revenue sources.
The hot slots will be Commercial Street — Jumma Masjid Road, Brigade Road — MG Road Junction, Brigade Road —Residency Road junction, South End Circle, Jayanagar — Vijaya Junior College Circle, Minerva Circle and Palace Road — opposite Cauvery theatre junction.
“Electronic display board is expensive and costs between Rs 70 lakh and Rs one crore. We will soon introduce more slots,’’ said BBMP officials.
For starters, there is already an EDS hoarding at Anil Kumble Circle on MG Road. While another agency has been given permission to display a hoarding at the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium.
This time BBMP has set strict guidelines for the format and design. The agency should construct the unipole in conformity with engineering design and structural material specifications. That apart, they are required to display name, logo of the BBMP and social messages given by the organisation, officials explained.
AD FACTS
Agencies can apply for installing EDS on lease-cum-rental basis.
Agreement comes with 36-month validity for display of advertisement.
Last date for applying is January 8; the agency has to deposit EMD (earnest money deposit) of Rs 10 lakh to BBMP.
The agency should pay Rs 50,000 towards ground rent and Rs 500 as advertisement tax per month.
BBMP has identified seven places for display of EDS hoardings.
