Bangalore gets a chilly punch

Bangalore: Brrr, it’s cold in Bangalore too, not just in the North. The city woke up to a nippy morning and dense fog on Tuesday though there was no dip in temperature.
Low maximum temperature coupled with cloudy conditions and strong cold winds made it chillier. Weather experts attribute the shivering conditions throughout the day to the shrinking difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures.
According to the meteorological department, the minimum temperature has remained more than normal while the maximum temperature has been quite less than what it should be normally. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature stood at 17.9O C, 2 degrees above normal. On the other hand, the maximum temperature was about 23O C, 4 degrees below normal. Another cold factor is that the humidity that has resulted from the low trough wave in the southwest Bay brought some drizzles making the day cooler than one would expect in this part of the year, a senior Met official said.
Rain in parts of Tamil Nadu and the cloudy images shown by the INSAT pictures indicate that the cloudy atmosphere is likely for the next 48 hours. Are the conditions during the early hours of the day misty or cloudy? Some days are cloudy, while a few other days have been misty. Parts of Bangalore were misty on Monday, but the city was largely cloudy on Tuesday.
“We experience fog or mist when the skies are clear and the wind speed is minimal. But with humidity in air, the drizzles and appreciably strong winds, we are seeing only cloudy conditions,’’ the official explained.
