Traffic jams on any given day spell woe for Bangaloreans. Commuting on Tuesday proved to be a nightmare as the city’s already infamous traffic situation worsened, courtesy the rain. The intermittent rains or thundershower are likely to continue in the next 24 hours.

Water-logged roads and traffic diversions were order of the day. Many blamed the rain and low visibility for the traffic woes.

Raghavendra, a business development manager at a software firm, said he was stuck in a traffic for over half an hour on Mysore Road on his way back from work.

While on any given day one has to put up with slow moving traffic on Mysore Road, there was bumper to bumper traffic due to water logging and low visibility, he added.

Others complained that the rains and traffic jams had upset their schedules.

Gopal, a software engineer missed an appointment as he was stuck in the jam on Hosur Road.

“It usually takes only 20 minutes from Forum Mall to MG Road, but it took me an hour as I was stuck here, he said. Vijay, a student of BMS Engineering college who had his practical examinations said “it took nearly an hour to reach college on Tuesday morning when it usually takes half the time”.

Fewer pedestrians

Due to rains there was low presence of pedestrians on the road and people preferred travelling by auto-rickshaws.

While the auto-rickshaw drivers reaped gold on Wednesday, heavy movement of four-wheeler and auto-rickshaws led to traffic congestion on many areas.

A similar situation was witnessed at Anand Rao Circle near Majestic where the traffic police had to exercise much to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Flight delays

Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu had its impact on the flights as few of them were delayed and rescheduled on the Bangalore-Chennai route.

Kingfisher and Deccan reported delays on the route. A Deccan flight, which was to leave for Bangalore at 5.30 pm, departed Chennai at 10 pm, while a Kingfisher flight from Bangalore to Chennai, scheduled to leave in the evening, was delayed for 15 to 20 minutes.

Other airlines also reported minor delays.
