Widen road, but give parking space'
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has identified 20 roads for widening...

It has invited applications from owners of properties facing these roads. Increasing vehicular population is the main reason for the move.

Widening may help ease traffic movement. Those having establishments on these roads have mixed views.

According to them, the increase in width will bring more customers. At the same time, it will take away their valuable property, which cannot be compensated. Petty shop owners, however, find the decision “anti-poor”.
But none expressed concern over the chopping of trees, which is inevitable for road widening.

The Palike has proposed increasing the width of Lalbagh Road to 24 metres. At present, the width varies between 12 metres and 18 metres. One side of the road is full of commercial establishments and the other partly occupied by shops . A major portion is occupied by establishments such as the BMTC bus stand and the KSRTC depot. Businessmen are not opposed to widening, but they demand enough parking space for customers.
