Jayanagar residents want auditorium

Jayanagar residents want auditorium

Bangalore: The Jayanagar fourth block Residents Welfare Association (RWA) has called for a complete revamp, of the famed Puttanna Kanagal theatre, into a full-fledged public auditorium. Association member, Keshav Kumar told TOI that, Jayanagar lacked a good auditorium for public programmes, and that the theatre could be converted into the same. “We do not want another complex. There are already lakhs of people who come to the existing shopping complex. The flow will only increase if another complex comes up. We request authorities to build an auditorium that will help the South of Bangalore.” The association, which met recently to assess civic problems in the area, has also stated that a CA site meant for a community hall has been misused to construct a club.
“There are documents to show that the site was meant for a community hall. But a private club has taken over the site. How can that happen? There is a 30-year lease permitting a hall. We want authorities to look into this.” Kumar said people were also misusing the club premises by indulging in gambling. “Someday, it will all hit them, and they will be on the roads after losing all their money. We should stop this.”
The RWA member also pointed out that a similar “encroachment” had taken place next to the Jayanagar telephone exchange. “A private person has built a house on a site meant for cultural activities. Why is there no one to question the resident? An auditorium can come up there too.” A major problem affecting residents was the seepage of sewerage water into residential water tanks, he said. “The sewerage pipes are very small and age old. We want a new set of big pipes for all residents in entire Jayanagar.”
The Association should be made member of the Jayanagar Shopping Complex Committee to enable it to make decisions that would help residents, Kumar said.
