BBMP cleans parks and lakes

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday observed World Environment Day by cleaning 15 parks and Ulsoor, Sankey and Yediyur lakes in the city.

According to a press release, 754 saplings were planted in 15 selected parks including M.N. Krishna Rao Park, Jayamahal Park, Laxmidevi Park, Kumara Park West and J.P. Park.

That apart, the civic body, in coordination with Radio Mirchi and Garden City College, took up cleaning of Agaram and Vengainakere lakes. To create awareness about greening among people, it plans to distribute 1,220 medicinal saplings to the public.

KMRP roads

Ten prominent arterial roads upgraded under the Rs. 177.72-crore Karnataka Municipal Reforms Project aided by the World Bank are ready for public use and will be thrown open shortly.

BBMP Commissioner K. Jairaj, has said that work on the remaining roads w ill be completed by this year-end. As many as 130 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads have been taken up for upgradation in four packages.
