BANGALORE: Wallposters have become a menace to the beauty of the Garden City.

Though the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has banned pasting wallposters in certain areas, various organisations violate it without an iota of fear.

Ironically, most of these wallposters consist photographs of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Health Minister R Ashok, who are supposed to ensure the beauty of the City.

It was announced that the BBMP had banned pasting of wallposters on various roads such as Ambedkar Veedhi, Raj Bhavan Road, Post Office Road, Basaveswara Circle, Maharani College Road, K R Circle, surroundings of Cubbon Park and Lalbagh, Nrupathunga Road and Palace Road to safeguard the beauty of Bangalore.

But the reality is different. Interestingly, the BBMP has the power to remove such wallposters. But it has never made an attempt to punish any of the violators.

“It is very difficult to send a notice to such people. They put all sorts of pressure on us to withdraw such notices. We are helpless. It is not easy to locate the violators. So, it is better to remove the wallposters instead of wasting our time in sending notices to violators,” says a BBMP official.

If the wallposters of a mass marriage function pasted near GPO is any indication, it seems neither the BBMP staff had the time to remove them nor the organisers of the function had any reason for pasting the posters there.

It is certain that organisers had not expected the passers-by to attend the function but wanted the VIPs to have a look at these posters. Many people are against debasing of walls by posters.

They want the government to come out with a legislation to end this menace. “I am against debasing of walls. I think the government should come out with a law prohibiting pasting of posters on walls,” opines Dayanand of Bandavya Samaste.

“All political parties and social organisations have a hand in debasing walls in Bangalore. I inform BBMP engineers whenever I come across people pasting posters on walls,” says K Gangahanumaiah, director, Bangalore Parisara Vedike.
