BANGALORE: The motorists in the city get stuck in a traffic bottleneck after they zip through the flyover near City Market.

The problem is severe near Gali Anjaneya temple on Mysore Road. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) plans to decongest the stretch by building a flyover by December.

The junction connects Chord Road and Mysore Road and affects traffic in Vijayanagar, Chamrajpet, City Market, on Chord Road and on Mysore Road. The flyover project involves building a bridge over the storm water drain at Gali Anjaneya Temple.

The top of the flyover will have a length of 240 metres with a 5-lane unidirectional traffic. The Palike chief engineer (projects) A K Gopalaswamy told this paper that the work was sanctioned by the government in February last but work started in November.

“The progress so far is nearly 50 per cent, and we’re hopeful to complete the infrastructure by December - two months in advance,” he said. The project is being executed by National Project Constructions Corporation (NPCC) Ltd.

The flyover will have four ramps along with an additional loop connecting KSRTC satellite bus stand near Kavika. The ramp connecting Mysore Road-Chord Road would have 3 lanes for unidirectional traffic with a length of 150m.

The ramp linking Vijayanagar would have 3 lanes to accommodate unidirectional traffic with a length of 135m while the ramp towards city would also have 3 lane for unidirectional traffic.

The flyover would have a 2-lane ramp towards Mysore and the additional loop to KSRTC satellite bus stand would be 475m long. The project was estimated to cost Rs 18.31 crore but it was subsequently bid for Rs 20.83 crore.
