BANGALORE: Though the South-West monsoon is at the thresholds, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited(BMRCL) seems unconcerned.

The 33-kilometre Metro Rail project across the city is making its way up on a feverish pitch.

The chief public information officer dismissed the issue and said the Corporation had not thought rains a problem.

“We are not specially equipped for the rains, nor we think the rains a nuisance,” he said.

Yashvant Chavan, Chief Public Information Officer, also admitted that the rains had not been thought of as an issue of concern for the Rail Corporation.

“No precautions have been taken for the monsoons. Metro rail works will continue even in the rains,” he said.

But the general public has much to bother about it. The utilities shifting of Reach 1 from Indiranagar to CMH Road is still under way.

Utilities shifting consists of displacing the BESCOM, KPTCL, BWSSB and BSNL underground wires to another appropriate place, which may come to a standstill during rainy seasons.

Experts say that utilities shifting requires digging up of roads which can lead to a messy condition during the rainy season.

The Metro rail will have about seven underground stations, four in the East-West corridor, and three in the North-South corridor.
