BANGALORE: An unnamed cyclone that got activated off Mahartstra coast on Sunday, brought heavy downpour in parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Bangalore, on Sunday night.
Though speculations were rife that the Sunday rains were part of South West Monsoon, weather experts were pointing at a cyclone that has developed off Maharashtra coast.
“A cyclone has been formulated far from Maharashtra coast, and the same cyclone might have influenced the clouds to move towards South India. However, the clear picture will be available only by Monday,” said a weather expert, adding that the rains that lashed Bangalore on Sunday night were “thunder shower activity, which are related to upcoming South West Monsoon.”
The rains brought misery over Bangalore, specially the eastern parts of the City, where the weather office in Bangalore Airport recorded nearly 6 centimetre of rainfall in just two hours.
The City Meteorological office recorded 11.4 millilitre rainfall till 12 midnight, while Airport weather office recorded 54.4 mm rainfall till the same time.
The rains, however, did not hamper the traffic on the main roads, except on Airport Road, where traffic jam was reported till late night due to water logging.
