It is better to plant saplings in parks

It is better to plant saplings in parks

In a welcome measure that tends to gladden the hearts of the green-lovers the Metro Rail project managers have begun to take steps to save as much green cover along the rail-route as possible.

The much-talked-about M G Boulevard will be regrown elsewhere. In an effort to conserve the trees of the MG Road, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), proposes to resort to transplantation or replanting of the trees.

But the environmentalists and activists feel that the transplanting of trees or growing elsewhere is futile.

In transplanting of trees, the percentage growth of trees is low. There are several factors that are involved in transplanting of the trees.

Firstly, if the trees are old, then the chances of its growth is limited or it may not grow at all. If it is a small tree then it may grow but may not meet the expectations.

On the other hand, regrowing of trees in other places never worked.

There were instances where the government promised to grow trees during several projects like construction of flyovers or road widening but no one knows where they were planted. No one takes care of saplings planted on roadside, it is better if they are planted in parks.
