BMIC Update: Project still land-locked
Project still land-locked
If all other infrastructure projects are progressing without a hitch, the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) appears to be the black dot.
The private road project is still stuck, with not an inch of land given by the government right since November 2006. The problem over a stretch of land at the Gottigere Lake is still pending in various court cases, while the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board’s decision to withdraw its clearance for the project is being fought in the Karnataka High Court. Presently, about 40 of the 41 km peripheral road arcing around Bangalore, 4 km of the 12 km expressway up to Mysore and 7 of the 9 km of link road from Bangalore city to the peripheral road has been completed.
Sources in the BMIC project company Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) said the company was looking into filing a contempt case against the state government in the Supreme Court for not expediting the project.
The original order, directing the state to provide all cooperation and speed up the project, was issued in April 2006 and from then up to November, about 70 acres were given. “We keep asking the government for land due to us. But there has been no reply from their side,’’ sources added.
